Hurricane Kirk strengthens into a Category 4 storm in the Atlantic

KIFI

MIAMI (AP) — Forecasters say Hurricane Kirk has strengthened into a Category 4 storm in the Atlantic Ocean and waves caused by it could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions this weekend. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says swells generated by Kirk are expected to reach portions of the Leeward Islands on Friday, Bermuda and the Greater Antilles on Saturday, and the U.S. East Coast and the Bahamas on Sunday. The center says Kirk is expected to remain away from land and there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. The major hurricane has maximum sustained winds of 130 mph.
