Idaho State and Boise State are trying to figure out spring season details
POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - With no Big Sky and Mountain West fall sports in 2020, athletic directors in Idaho are scrambling trying to figure things out.
For Idaho State Director of Athletics Pauline Thiros, she is concerned about her teams overlap in using the same venues.
"It's all daunting to me right now," Thiros said. "I just finished a two hour call beginning to discuss with the other members of that committee how spring season might look. I think that the really big challenge is indoor track and field. How do we execute an indoor track and field season, when we have football indoors in January and February. So we've got to find ways to effectively give our track and field team opportunities to compete."
For Boise State Athletic Director Curt Apsey, the department is facing a $20-million dollar hit to their budget with no fall sports.
"You know, our job as athletic directors working closely with our coaches is going to be to make some type of recommendation that makes sense. So what does the spring look like? How many conferences involved? How many schools are willing to play? You know that all has to be decided."
