Sanpete County fire burns 56 structures
Fire officials say at least 56 structures have been destroyed in a central Utah wildfire, and they’re only halfway through their damage assessment as the blaze continues to burn.
The Wood Hollow Fire in Sanpete County has grown to more than 46,000 acres, or 72 square miles, after strong winds whipped the flames Tuesday afternoon.
The fire is the largest of several burning in Utah. Officials are keeping a portion of U.S. 89 closed Wednesday morning and are reassessing whether to let evacuated residents of Fairview return to their homes.
Sanpete County sheriff’s officials say they have a tentative identification on a body they found Tuesday morning in the evacuation area on the west side of U.S. 89, but are waiting for confirmation from a medical examiner.
