May man killed in crash

Idaho State Police said a May, Idaho, man was killed after his pickup lost control while attempting to pass another on Pahsimeroi Road near the Lemhi-Custer County line. It happened around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

Troopers said 25-year-old Cooper Banks was driving north in a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 and attempted to pass a 2005 Ford F350 pickup driven by 19-year-old Alex Schwenke of May on a curve.

There was a minor collision of the two pickups that sent Banks’ vehicle off the left side of the road. The pickup rolled and ejected him. Banks was pronounced dead at the scene.

Schwenke’s vehicle went off the right side of the road, but he was able to regain control of the pickup and return to the road.

Neither driver was wearing a seat belt, police said.

Investigation of the crash is continuing.
