Statewide ‘Fast Forward’ program to launch students toward college courses

For the first time this upcoming school year, high school juniors and seniors will be eligible for state funding to take dual credit college courses.

This differs from the other dual course programs already implemented under the state’s advanced opportunity programs since the other programs require high school students to have already completed their high school graduation requirements before receiving funding from the state to take these courses.

The Fast Forward program doesn’t require students to have met those requirements. Instead, it’s open for every high school junior and senior across Idaho to sign up for these courses and receive this funding.

This past 2014 legislative session, lawmakers passed Senate Bill 1233 which allows the state to pay up to 75% of the total cost of their courses, maxing-out at either $200 for juniors and $400 for seniors.

For parents and students interested in this program, the Idaho State Dept. of Education will be holding a free seminar at the Idaho State University Pond Student Union Building ballroom Monday night starting at six o’clock.
