Petition to recall Dunn handed in to Jefferson County

A group in Jefferson County handed in a petition Tuesday night to recall longtime prosecuting attorney Robin Dunn.

After filing a petition Sept. 23, Lyndsay Goody had 75 days to get 2,824 signatures. Instead, Goody and other supporters rounded up more than 3,500 signatures.

“People recognize that there needs to be a change in Jefferson County right now,” said Goody.

Dunn has been the county’s prosecuting attorney for more than three decades, but Goody said he’s made too many questionable decisions. For example, Goody said the law firm he owns once charged the county $18,000 to represent it in a federal case.

“The Eagle Rock sanitation lawsuit was a big thing,” said Goody. “The Lawrence Blackburn conflict of interest is a big thing.”

Shelly Alldred, a supporter of the petition, said she actually worked with Dunn for 15 years.

“Over the last few years he has misused his authority, power and his budget to the detriment of the county,” said Alldred.

The County Clerk’s Office now has 15 business days to verify the signatures. If the petitioners did everything by the book, Dunn will receive a letter giving him five business days to resign or he’ll be subject to a recall election March 10.

“I will be surprised if there’s a resignation,” said Goody. “I fully expect that we see a recall election.”

After 10 weeks of work, Goody said they’re not done yet.

“I’m sure there will be advertising going on, maybe mailers,” said Goody. “Things like that, just to make sure people get out and vote.”

Local News 8 and KIDK Eyewitness News left a message for Dunn at the Prosecutors Office Tuesday afternoon. He did not return our call.
