Assisted living center offers free home visits for seniors

Two assisted living facility will be going throughout the community to serve senior citizens in need.

They will focus on education, wellness visits and resources for families all over our area, all at no cost.

Ridge Wind and Highland Hills hope to capture working to help those in the community who may fall between coverage gaps, but are still in need.

“It is absolutely a free service,” said Robyn Smith, executive director at Highland Hills. “There’s no cost to the people out in the community at all. It’s about giving back to the people in the community and just making sure they’re safe at home.”

Smith said it’s vital to show our elderly loved ones they are cared for, especially as the rate of depression is highest in seniors this time of year.

“This time of year is so important,” she said. “We have the holidays come up, and you see sometimes the depression will come about.”

Smith says that’s why it’s important for the care facility workers to go into people’s homes and see first-hand how senior citizens are doing.

Smith and one of her fellow managers, Teresa Brown, took apples pies baked at Highland Hills to seniors in the community on Friday. While at the resident’s homes, they use the opportunity to do more.

“We have the nurses, whether that be a registered nurse or the licensed nurse that go out with us,” Smith said. “They have the medical background to have a look and tell the family what they’re seeing on the medical point.”

Smith said they have a lot of resources and information they can give families, and they will travel anywhere in the area, like Bancroft, Aberdeen, Idaho Falls and more.

She said they are simply looking to make the lives of seniors better in whatever way they can, wherever they are.

“Families are busy at this time of year,” she said. “So please let us be a part of it and come help you and be a resource.”

Smith says they usually like to visit 10 homes per weekday, and in extreme circumstances, they can make emergency visits.

If you have an elderly loved one who could benefit from an in-home visit, you can call Highland Hills at 208-237-6866 and Ridge Wind and 208-237-3000.
