Police in Eastern Idaho support body cameras

Recent incidents involving police in Ferguson, Missouri, and New York City have sparked different conversations across the country. One of those topics is whether police officers should wear body cameras.

Some police officers in Eastern Idaho are already using this tool. Local police say the benefits of body cameras are incredibly valuable.

They say these cameras benefit both police and the community. Police say dashcams in squad cars have been very successful and body cameras would add to that.

“There’s just so much involved in it,and we deal with all sorts of people good and bad so we have to be on our toes, and have whatever resources available provided to use the tools to do our job and body cameras is one of those tools,” said Capt. Randy Lewis, of the Rexburg Police Department.

Rexburg police have been looking into getting these for a while now. One of the problems is how expensive they are. They are looking for ways to fit them in the budget.

Police say video from these cameras help solve cases and assist in court.
