Organization helps legally blind man hunt elk

A legally blind Idaho Falls man hopes a special hunt he experienced in Wyoming will someday be available in Idaho.

In November, Lynn Kneip participated in Wyoming Disabled Hunters program on private land just outside of Cody.

The group offers help for hunters in wheelchairs and even equipment for blind hunters, like Kneip.

“They have a special little camera, and I’ve never seen one before, but they put it right on my scope,” said Kneip.

From a blind, volunteers helped Kneip sight-in the elk.

“My first response afterward was ‘Did I get her?'” said Kneip.

He sure did. The cow elk was one of three harvested with Wyoming Disabled Hunters this fall. Now, Kneip hopes the experience will one day be available in Idaho. With the National Federation of the Blind on board, he’s reaching out to other groups to generate interest.

“Like I went over to Wyoming, it could also bring people from other states into Idaho too,” said Kneip.

Kneip hopes to go on another hunt with Wyoming Disabled Hunters next fall, but this time he wants to shoot a deer.
