Cows missing from Pocatello meat-packing plant
Pocatello police and animal services are investigating after three cows were discovered missing from a Pocatello meat-packing plant Sunday. It’s the same plant from which a cow escaped Friday.
A co-owner of Anderson Custom Plant told Local News 8 one of the missing cows was recaptured Monday, but the other two were still missing as of Monday night.
“The gate had been tampered with and pushed open,” said co-owner Julie Anderson. “There is, for sure, foul play.”
Anderson said the cows were secured in a holding pen when workers checked on them Saturday.
The two missing cows are valued at about $1,500 a piece, giving thieves a motive.
“The price of beef is really high right now,” said Anderson.
On Friday, a cow escaped from Anderson Custom Pack and injured an employee on its way out. Police deemed that cow a danger to the public, and shot it to death. But not before it led them on a chase through the streets of northern Pocatello.
