Blackfoot alumna looks to reunite Class of 34
At 99 years old, Arlene Yancey said she hopes to reunite with her senior classmates from Blackfoot High School.
“I’d like us to reunite, but there isn’t very many of us left,” said Yancey. “I think it’s good to reminisce and get together and talk about things that happened.”
Yancey said although her high school years were during the Great Depression, there are plenty of great memories.
“We always had dances at noon and we very seldom ate any lunch. We had to hurry and eat our sandwiches and go over to the gym,” she said.
Yancey said she was an avid reader, loved English and served on many of the school committees, including the Class Reunion Committee. She said the 60th reunion was the last time many of her classmates were together. Yancey’s daughter, Carol Johnson, said her mother’s determination has rubbed off on her for years as she has been planning reunions for the Class of 1963.
“My mother has really set the stage, showing me it’s important to stay connected to friends,” said Johnson. “I would like her to be able to find someone so that she could have another little reunion and be able to know who’s still living and who they are.”
Yancey hasn’t been successful in finding many of her classmates. If you or someone you know is a Class of 34 Blackfoot High School graduate, please contact Carol Johnson at 208-709-8587.
