A WINTER STORM WILL MOVE THROUGH THE AREA TODAY THROUGH CHRISTMAS DAY BRINGING A WHITE CHRISTMAS FOR EVERYONE. ANYONE TRAVELING TODAY THROUGH CHRISTMAS WILL SEE DIFFICULT AND HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS FROM SNOW AS WELL AS BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW DUE TO STRONG WINDS.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN POCATELLO HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 PM MST THURSDAY. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* TIMING…5 PM MST TODAY TO 5 PM MST CHRISTMAS DAY. * MAIN IMPACT…SNOWFALL OF 3 TO 6 INCHES OF VALLEY SNOW WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS PARTICULARLY ALONG BENCHES. BENCH ACCUMULATIONS IN THE POCATELLO AREA COULD BE AS HIGH AS 8 INCHES.

* OTHER IMPACTS…BLOWING SNOW WILL REDUCE VISIBILITY AND DRIFTING SNOW CAN COVER OVER A RECENTLY PLOWED HIGHWAY QUICKLY. AVOID TRAVEL IF POSSIBLE. PLAN AN EARLIER DEPARTURE TO ARRIVE AT YOUR DESTINATION BEFORE THE SNOW STARTS.
