Mother, daughter die in Christmas Day crash

A mother and daughter died in a crash on Interestate 15 in southern Pocatello on Thursday.

Idaho State Police said Rachel T. Hollibaugh, 38, of Dietrich, was driving southbound in a 2001 Ford F250 pickup when she lost control of the vehicle and drove off the left side of the road into the median around 11 a.m. The pickup rolled, coming to rest on its top.

Hollibaugh and her daughter, Tanessa Hollibaugh, 14, were pronounced dead at the crash.

“One of the passengers was ejected and the vehicle rolled on top of them, and then the driver was fatally injured,” said Sgt. Matt Manning, with Idaho State Police.

Five other children of Rachel Hollibaugh were transported by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center.

As of Thursday at 4 p.m., four children had been released from the hospital while one remained in the emergency unit. A Portneuf spokeswoman would not say which child.

Next of kin has been notified.

The heavy, wet snow that fell on eastern Idaho on Wednesday and Thursday led to various accidents. Pocatello police said since temperatures were expected to drop freezing, roads would continue to be hazardous throughout the night.
