Fish and Game proposes trophy hunt changes

Idaho Fish and Game is asking for your input as it moves forward in proposing changes on trophy hunts.

Every two years Fish and Game sets new regulations for trophy species, and in southeast Idaho, it’s focusing on moose, in particular.

Fish and Game has a set of proposed changes such as adding hunting opportunities to regions closer to the river bottom by adding a couple antlerless tags.

“In our region, we have a bit of a mixed-bag,” Fish and Game’s Regional Wildlife Manager Martha Wackenhut said. “Some places where we will be adding hunting opportunities are: 68A, 73, 73A, and 74.”

She said there are also some places where they want to cut back a little, such as unit 71, where hunters haven’t had much luck recently.

“Unit 71 currently has two hunting areas within one unit and we would like to combine those two, have just one hunt and reduce tag levels to five anterless and six antler tags,” she added.

Fish and Game will be taking public comment until the fifth of January.
