Pastor Rafael Cruz speaks at Lincoln Day Celebration
The Republican Party Lincoln Day celebration brought the elections to their banquet Saturday night. Those in attendance were able to hear from representatives from some of the GOP candidates.
“Cruz, and Trump’s, and Rubio’s head contributors would be here,” said Sienna Smith. “I wanted to hear what they think about some of the big policies and issues around the country.”
“Listen to some really informative talks about national politics,” said Jonathan Walker.
Speakers represented GOP candidates: Janice McGeachin for Donald Trump’s campaign, Frank Vandersloot for Marco Rubio and guest key note speaker Rafael Cruz, pastor and father of Ted Cruz.
“To think that I came to this country 58 years ago with nothing,” said Cruz. “Couldn’t even speak the language. To see my son not only a U.S. Senator but potentially being the next president of the United States of America. All I could think was, only in America.”
That same pride for our country is what inspires members of the Region Seven Republicans to hold events like their Lincoln Day Celebration.
“We live in a wonderful country and the more you travel to other countries you understand how wonderful our country is,” said Walker. “The thing that makes it wonderful is the ability to intervene at a local level.”
Guests will also be able to live text their vote for a presidential straw poll. Cruz feels very confident in his son’s performance in Idaho for the primaries.
“He will not only win Idaho, he will be the next president of the United States,” said Cruz.
Cruz won the Kansas caucus by more than 50 percent today . Pastor Rafael Cruz said he thinks it’s time it became a two-man race for the Republican nomination.
