Northgate Drive water project underway in Pocatello

It’s spring and that means construction season.

Construction to put in a new water line along Northgate Drive in Pocatello started last week.

The Public Works Department said the project is very necessary because there are a lot of problems with the water system in that area.

The current pipe system is from the 1960s and the city said it’s just no longer cutting it. Because the pipe is so old, there are a lot of water main breaks in that area every year. Those breaks are expensive for the city to repair.

The project will run along Northgate Drive from Sandpiper Drive to Pole Line Road. The city said residents will only be without water for one to two hours during this project. They will be given notice before their water is shut off.

Michael Jaglowski, the public works director for Pocatello, said they know construction can be an inconvenience but they are doing everything they can to make it easier on residents.

“The biggest item we can stress to the resident is be patient,” said Jaglowski. “We expect this to be an eight, nine, maybe 10-week project out there. And we’ll do everything we can from a city standpoint and from a construction standpoint to be accommodating to individual needs.”

Jaglowski said after the water line has been installed, the road department will then come in and patch up the road.

Jaglowski said so far the project is on schedule and they hope to have it completed by mid-May.
