AFTON, Wyo. (KIFI/KIDK) - A Jackson man was killed when his vehicle went out of control on ice and snow north of Afton at around 1:10 p.m. Sunday.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol said John Koerber, 22, was northbound at milepost 96 on US 89 when his 2002 Ford Focus entered the southbound lane and collided with a 2007 GMC Sierra pulling an empty horse trailer. Koerber died at the scene of the crash.

The pickup driver was identified as 49-year-old Corey Christensen of Thayne. Christensen was transported to the Star Valley Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

A passenger in Christensen's vehicle, Maryanne Christensen, 48, was also transported to Star Valley Medical Center.

Speed is being investigated as a possible contributing factor to the crash.
