RFP released for Future Affordable Workforce Housing at 90 Virginian Lane
JACKSON, Wyo (KIFI) — During a monthly joint meeting on Tuesday, the Jackson Town Council and Teton County Board of County Commissioners directed staff to release a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a Multifamily Developer at 90 Virginian Lane. Proposals are required to provide at least 150 permanently deed restricted homes for the local workforce.
“This is a step toward developing a new, vibrant, mixed-income neighborhood in Midtown that will provide safe, stable, affordable homes for local workers and their families,” Jackson/Teton County Affordable Housing Director April Norton said.
Utilizing 2022 voter-approved specific purpose excise tax (SPET) funds for community housing, The Housing Authority purchased the 5.15-acre parcel of land, currently occupied by a 100-stall RV Park, to help ensure that community members and people in our local workforce can make their home here in Jackson. The location is also considered ideal due to the parcel’s proximity to the pathway system, public transportation services, commercial services, and the library.
“This is an ideal property for community housing, and I am excited to have reached this next step to request proposals from developers. As our Comp Plan goal highlights keeping Town as the ‘Heart of our Region,’ it’s great to know there will be more housing for our community at this central location," Mayor Hailey Morton Levinson said.
“It’s great that the County Commission and Town Council are putting the voter-approved SPET funds to work. This is a great site for affordable workforce housing," Teton County Board of County Commissioners Chair Luther Propst said. "The RFP lays the foundation for a rare opportunity to partner with a private-sector developer to create a neighborhood for local workers and their families. It also demonstrates our community’s commitment to energy efficiency, sustainability, and creating a diverse and inclusive neighborhood. I look forward to seeing the proposals.”
The Jackson/Teton County Housing Authority, through the Housing Department, is requesting proposals that create a highly livable, sustainable, and inclusive new neighborhood for local workers and their families. The goal is for this new neighborhood to create as many homes for community members as possible. Proposals should be rooted in sustainability, lean into multimodal transportation and provide mixed income units that are available to rent or own. The full RFP description can be found HERE.
