Idaho Falls’ Luke Athay named Gatorade Idaho Boys Cross Country Player of the Year

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Another local super sophomore runner is getting state recognition, as Idaho Falls' Luke Athay has been named the Gatorade Idaho Boys Cross Country Player of the Year.

Athay won the individual 5A state championship this season and helped his team finish second at states. Luke also finished third in the Eastbay West Regional Championships and was the highest-finishing sophomore in the Eastbay Cross Country Championships.

By winning this award, Athay is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Boys Cross Country Player of the Year award, which will be announced in February.

Luke and Skyline's Nelah Roberts, both sophomore runners, won this year's Gatorade Idaho Cross Country Player of the Year awards, bringing both awards back to the Idaho Falls area for the first time since 2015.

Luke was featured as our Sermon Service and Electric Athlete of the Week Dec. 15th.
