Longtime AP State Department reporter George Gedda dies at 82

WASHINGTON (AP) — An Associated Press reporter whose coverage of the State Department and international relations spanned more than four decades has died. George Gedda was 82. Gedda played a major role in explaining U.S. foreign policy to the American public from Vietnam, Cuba, Afghanistan and Iraq. Gedda also was the author of books on his time as an AP diplomatic correspondent, on Cuba’s communist revolution and on his first love, baseball. Gedda was a native of Valley Stream, New York, and died Sunday of bladder cancer while in hospice care in central Florida.
