BEIJING (AP) — A Chinese-Australian journalist who worked for China’s state broadcaster and was convicted on murky espionage charges has spoken out about the conditions of her detention. Cheng Lei was found guilty at a closed-door trial last year but has yet to be sentenced. She described deeply missing her children in a letter to the Australian public released Friday on the third anniversary of her detention. She said she can only stand in the sunlight for 10 hours a year and hasn’t seen a tree since she was detained. She moved to Australia at age 10 but returned to China to work for state broadcaster CCTV. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said the nation would continue to advocate for Cheng’s interests and well-being.
