3 things to know this morning – October 4, 2023

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) -

1. You may see more farm equipment more often on the roads these coming weeks. 

According to data from the Idaho Transportation Department, there have been an average of nearly 50 crashes involving farm equipment on Idaho roads each year since 2009.

When passing a slow-moving vehicle, drivers should slow down and wait until it is safe to pass.

2. An elk hunter had to shoot a grizzly bear after it charged him. 

Idaho Fish and Game says the hunter was in heavy timber Saturday night northwest of Henry's Lake.

The large female grizzly came out of the brush and started running at him. 

Game officers determined the hunter acted in self-defense.

3. Rain and cold weather are affecting the harvest season.

Some farmers tell us it is nearly impossible to harvest potatoes in muddy fields, but it shouldn't affect consumers too much yet. 

They say the bigger issue is when temperatures drop below 20 degrees during the harvest.
