3 things to know this morning – October 27, 2023
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Here's what you should know to start your Friday.
1. A district judge in Idaho is denying a request to dismiss a grand jury indictment in the Bryan Kohberger case. His defense argued that there was an error in the instructions to the grand jury saying it was "misled as to the standard of proof required for an indictment." The judge said he was constrained by settled Idaho law, and that the request would have to be brought to a higher court.
2. According to preliminary data from the Idaho Office of Highway Safety, 222 people have died in crashes on Idaho roads so far in 2023, surpassing the 215 people killed last year. Some of the most common contributing factors in this year’s fatal crashes were failure to stay in lane, speeding, and alcohol or drug impairment.
3. There are new concerns of mountain lion sightings in the Firth area. While these dangerous animals do roam through rural areas, Fish and Game say there is no reason to panic. If you do see a mountain lion in your area, contact the nearest Fish and Game regional office.
