Open house scheduled to discuss future traffic planning across the greater Idaho Falls area
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) – The Bonneville Metropolitan Planning Organization (BMPO) is hosting a public open house on Nov. 14 to discuss future traffic planning across the greater Idaho Falls area.
The open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the College of Eastern Idaho in the John E. Christofferson Multi-Purpose Complex, Building 3, room 306. At the open house, the public is encouraged to learn more about the area’s future transportation needs while providing comments on possible needs and solutions.
“We look forward to hearing from our community as we navigate the future of traffic planning across the Bonneville County metro area,” BMPO Director Darrell West said.
BMPO provides transportation planning in a collaborative effort for the Cities of Ammon, Idaho Falls, Iona, Ucon, and the urbanized portions of Bonneville County in conjunction with the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD).
“Effective transportation planning requires good professional planning while including our community's values and perspectives,” West said. “This transportation plan will assist in coordinating transportation challenges with the limited resources available to benefit the community for years to come.”

BMPO is a federally mandated and funded transportation policy-making organization in Bonneville County. Metropolitan planning organizations were introduced by the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1962 for urbanized areas with a population greater than 50,000. Regional transportation planning expands beyond roadways, including pedestrian pathways, bike paths, busses, trains and more.
