Ukraine premier in Tokyo says his country needs missiles, but expects new US aid to come through

TOKYO (AP) — Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said his country needs long-range missiles and other ammunition to end Russia’s invasion, and said he expects a U.S. aid package that’s stalled in Congress to come through, at a new conference in Tokyo a day after a conference on rebuilding Ukraine. Additional long-range missiles are crucial for his country’s air defense against Russia on the frontline, said the Ukrainian prime minister, speaking at a news conference the day after he attended a reconstruction conference in Tokyo co-hosted by Japan and Ukraine. In many western countries, their largely military support for Ukraine has faced pushback over growing costs.
