CHEROKEE COUNTY, North Carolina (WLOS) — A temporary custody agreement involving 4-year-old twins was reached just two weeks ago, according to court documents. On Saturday, instead of picking up the boys, the father was calling 911 to report their deaths.

The father, who was to get the boys on Wednesday evenings and every other weekend, found them about 10 a.m. Saturday. According to the 911 call, the man told dispatchers the children may have drowned Friday according to what Genevieve Ellen Springer said to him.

Springer, 44, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is being held without bond. Her next court appearance is set for April 15, 2024.

According to documents, the couple separated in July 2023. The court was still sorting out alimony and child support issues, along with a motion for an evaluation for Springer. Another custody hearing had been scheduled for April 2024.
