New Orleans police investigating vandalism of statue at a Catholic church

    NEW ORLEANS (WDSU) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the vandalism of a statue at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church.

The church took to its Facebook page and posted a picture of the statue of Sacred Heart of Jesus with broken hands.

Surveillance videos in the area show a man riding his bike and climbing onto the statue, holding an object and breaking the statue.

NOPD Second District detectives are actively investigating this incident and urge anyone with information who can assist to contact them at 504-658-6020 or to report information anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111.
