Local church raising money to replace roof

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - TheĀ First United Methodist Church in Pocatello is looking to reside under a brand new roof.

The church's building on North 15th Avenue needs a full roof replacement.

The estimated cost of the replacement is $360,000 dollars.

They are now asking the public to help through donations to the church as well through a gofundme page that has been created.

The facility was built in 1956 and has been home to a number of community events for nearly seven decades.

"The roof that we have is just old," said pastor Michael Conner. "It's been patched and roofed over several times. I think the building as a whole has three layers of shingle on it, and it's just time to be replaced. Parts of it leak whenever we get a heavy rain or a big snow melt. Because there's already so many layers of roof on it, it just all has to come off and we have to get a whole new layer of roof on there."

Conner says they plan to have the roof replaced by September.

If the roof is not replaced by Jan. 1, the building would no longer be used for church services as well as for their daycare center.
