Air tankers and helicopters attack Arizona wildfire that has forced evacuations near Phoenix
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Air tankers and helicopters have joined nearly 200 firefighters battling a wildfire northeast of Phoenix that has forced dozens of residents to flee their homes. Fire officials say that there have been no immediate reports of any injuries or homes damaged by the human-caused blaze that broke out the previous afternoon. But the evacuation area was expanded after an estimated 60 people already had left their homes in a Scottsdale-area subdivision. The fire has been fueled by dry conditions and a high of 110 degrees in Phoenix on Friday. It has burned across about 5 square miles. Elsewhere, crews continue to make progress on large wildfires that broke out this week in Oregon and California.
