Firearm found on Highland High School campus, Authorities say there is no threat to students

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - Pocatello Police are investigating how a firearm ended up on the campus of Highland High School Thursday morning.

Pocatello Police said in a Facebook post they were called to the school at about 8 a.m. and found .22 caliber rifle was found under a white hoodie located outside the tennis courts.

The Pocatello-Chubbuck School District sent an email to families about the discovery.

It mentioned there were no bullets found in the weapon and no suspect has been identified. It also said as an extra safety precaution, a K-9 was utilized in the exterior and interior of the school.

School leaders said there is no active threat to the school and classes will continue. They say out of abundance of caution, there will be an increased presence of police for the remainder of the day.

Editor note: Pocatello Police reported Thursday afternoon the hoodie found was actually white, not black as first reported.
