Colorado man goes to court in Idaho for stealing door-securing equipment from an airplane 

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) — Police reports allege a Colorado man, Anthony Alarcon, removed a carabiner clip from the emergency exit door of an aircraft in flight from Denver, Colo., to Idaho Falls on Sept. 28. Alarcon was charged with a felony offense, and he attended his preliminary hearing at the Bonneville County Court on Oct. 11.

At the hearing, the arresting officer Joshua Deede went on stand for a cross-examination, saying that he had never dealt with a case like this before. The officer testified that he questioned Alarcon after the flight crew and one passanger claimed he was the suspect.

Alarcon allegedly denied having stole the carabiner at first. But after the officer requested he empty his pockets, Alarcon pulled the carabiner from his waistline, the officer testified.  

Officer Deede arrested Alarcon on Sept. 28 for violating statute I.C. § 21-702, which states that intentionally stealing a part of an aircraft is a felony in Idaho. The prosecutors also alleged that Alarcon assualted Deede and resisted arrest — both misdemeanors — on the day of the incident.

During the preliminary hearing, Magistrate Judge Mark Rammel found probable cause for each count: removing part of an aircraft, assault, and resisting arrest. Alarcon’s trial is set for Oct. 21 at the Bonneville District Court.
