US 30 on Georgetown Summit is now open after wildfire

GEORGETOWN, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE: U.S. Highway 30 near Georgetown is now open.

The Bear Lake County Sheriff's Office still asks that drivers travel the Georgetown Summit slowly, because firefighters and equipment are still working on a fire that started Tuesday afternoon.

Water drops were made to get the fire out.

Jim Parker with the local fire department told news anchor Todd Kunz that the Bureau of Land Management will remain on the fire all night. They do not know the total acreage or how the fire started. Parker said it was mostly contained by dark.
