Crash causes truck to hang off I-84 overpass near Rupert

UPDATE 4:15 p.m.: RUPERT, Idaho (ISP RELEASE) – DECLO – At 11:31 a.m. on November 14, 2024, Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash near Declo.   A 21-year-old male of Carlsbad, California, was driving a 2013 Mazda CX-5.  He exited eastbound I84 at exit 216 and proceeded to turn left onto southbound SH77 to head towards Declo.   The driver failed to yield to a semi, driven by a 37-year-old male from Senora, Mexico, that was southbound on SH77.  The semi swerved to miss the car and lost control and went over the overpass.  The semi is in the process of being removed from the overpass and the median below.  

The driver of the semi was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital.   The overpass for SH77 and the eastbound lanes of I84 at exit 216 are blocked while crews work to clear the scene.  Check https://511.idaho.gov for road blockage updates.

(12:42 p.m.) — A semi-truck is hanging off an overpass on I-84 near Rupert.

The accident blocked Idaho Highway 25/77, which goes over the interstate at Exit 216.

ITD advises drivers to avoid the area.

It's unknown how the truck ended off the bridge and if anyone was injured.
