Warmer, sunnier weather returns for Sunday

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI)- A low-pressure system moving east across Idaho will bring isolated showers and thunderstorms through Saturday evening before clearing out for warmer, sunnier weather on Sunday. High temperatures are expected to reach near 68 degrees on Sunday under light and variable winds.

Overnight low temperatures Saturday night will fall to around 43 degrees across the region, with more rural spots in the Snake Plain and Magic Valley dropping toward the mid-30s. The cooler air mass creates potential for patchy frost or a light freeze in rural areas and mountain valleys overnight Saturday and again Sunday night.

Isolated showers remain possible Saturday evening between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m., with precipitation chances around 20%. Pockets of heavier rainfall rates and small hail remain possible before shower and thunderstorm activity ends. As the low-pressure system shifts east of the Continental Divide overnight, lingering showers will persist around Island Park and Driggs.

Clearing skies on Sunday will bring a quick temperature bounce of five to 15 degrees compared to recent days, with daytime highs reaching near 68 degrees under gradually sunny skies. Mostly clear conditions will continue Sunday night, with overnight lows dipping back to around 43 degrees. Sunny weather continues into Monday and Tuesday, with daytime highs warming to near 76 degrees.

A second closed low-pressure system offshore is expected to shift inland across California before moving north through Utah and Idaho on Tuesday and Wednesday. This system brings a 20% chance of rain Tuesday night.

Dry conditions return on Thursday and Friday as the warming trend continues. Daytime highs in lower valley areas are expected to reach near 80 degrees late in the week before the next storm system develops offshore over the weekend.
