Warm temps and dry conditions to last through the first week of October

KIFI

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI)- Mostly clear skies and a low temperature around 49 degrees are expected Sunday night, setting up a warm and mostly sunny Monday with a high near 82 degrees.

The warm start to the week marks the beginning of an unseasonably dry and warm pattern expected to extend through the first full week of October. An amplifying Great Basin ridge will suppress precipitation across the region, boosting lower-elevation temperatures into the upper 70s to mid-80s through the week.

Light and variable winds on Monday afternoon will shift to the southwest at around six mph. A weak weather feature could trigger isolated thunderstorms over the southern highlands and central mountains. Because atmospheric moisture remains limited, these high-elevation storms are expected to be dry with very little rainfall, though gusty outflow winds remain possible in the southern highlands.

Sunny conditions and unseasonable warmth will persist across the region through Friday. High temperatures will reach near 79 degrees on Tuesday, 78 on Wednesday, 77 on Thursday and 79 on Friday. Overnight lows will remain consistent throughout the week, generally dropping between 47 and 51 degrees.

A potential weather trough moving into the region next weekend could bring a shift in the pattern. Ensemble models show the system moving southeast toward the Pacific Northwest by Saturday, bringing a 20% chance of rain and cooler temperatures with a high near 72 degrees.
