PARK CITY, Utah (KIFI) — Utah authorities will hold a joint press conference on Tuesday, October 27, at 12:00 p.m. to formally announce the closure of a decades-old cold case homicide and reveal findings linking the crime to infamous serial killer Ted Bundy.

While the victim's name has not been released ahead of the announcement, the Associated Press speculates the case may involve 17-year-old Melissa Ann Smith, who was murdered in Summit County in October 1974.

The press conference will take place at the Summit County Justice Center Complex, in Park City, Utah.

Summit County Sheriff Kacey Bates and County Attorney Margaret Olson are set to present key evidence and the breakthroughs that led officials to conclusively determine Bundy was responsible for the killing.

Sheriff Bates and Attorney Olson will be joined by several high-profile law enforcement leaders and forensic specialists, including Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera, Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith, Utah State Crime Lab DNA analysts, and investigators and subject matter experts from participating agencies to discuss the investigation and how it came to a close.
