Man arrested for possession of heroin and marijuana
AMMON, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - A 50-year-old Idaho Falls man was arrested for drug trafficking and possession of drugs Tuesday.
A Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle with fictitious plates in the area of 1st St. and Ammon Road around 11 a.m.Â
The deputy identified the driver as 50-year-old Ricky L. Benjamin of Idaho Falls and determined he did not have any information about the vehicle’s owner as well as a suspended driver’s license.Â
Deputies also could not locate a current titled owner to the vehicle or any indication it was registered in Idaho.Â
During this time, a K-9 Deputy arrived and utilized his dog to sniff for drugs around the vehicle and subsequently inside.Â
Deputies were able to search the vehicle and locate multiple items of drug paraphernalia alongside multiple packages of suspected marijuana and heroin.
The suspected illegal drugs were later weighed and found to be approximately seven grams of marijuana and more than 33 grams of heroin.
Benjamin was placed under arrest at that time and transported to the Bonneville County Jail where he was booked for felony drug trafficking in heroin, misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without privileges.Â
