Weber This Week’s Summit Orthopaedics Athlete Of The Week (4/29)

Spend an afternoon with Olivia Weber and you’ll probably be splitting time between two sports, golf and tennis.

“It’s kind of hectic, but I like it that way, you’re never not doing anything, but you have to really work at both,” says the Hillcrest junior. “You have to balance out the athletic schedule and your friends and all that stuff.”

Lots of high school athletes play two sports, but not at the same time, and not at the level that Olivia does. Already this year, she’s been the low golfer at nearly every event she’s entered, and on the court, she recently took down the mixed doubles title at the Eastern Idaho Invitational. She plays each sport about four times a week, and sometimes, like at districts last year, she competes in both the same day.

“In the morning I played golf,” says Weber. “I got done at one or two, and then I rushed back to Idaho Falls, and I played District tennis.”

Success at districts and state is nothing new to Olivia. In her first two years, she’s finished as high as 3rd in the state girls doubles tournament, and on the course, she’s the two-time defending district champion as well as a former state champion her freshman year. So, naturally, we want to know, which sports does she like better?

“That depends on how i’m playing. I love tennis cause you get to be loud and scream after the point, and you high five and it’s more high energy,” utters Weber. “With golf, you get to be more focused and intense. I don’t know. It’s a pretty even toss up. It just depends on how i’m playing.”

Olivia’s talent extends to the classroom where she carries a 3.96 GPA. It looks like golf will be the sport of choice in college, as she’s already drawn interest from schools like Montana and Gonzaga. But that doesn’t mean she won’t continue to pick up the racket as well.

“Hpefully, gonna play college golf and then possibly intramural tennis cause I wanna still play tennis. I don’t know, but i definitely still wanna play both for the rest of my life,” says Weber.

Here’s wishing our two-sport Summit Orthopaedics Athlete of the Week the best of luck in her pursuits.
