Brooklyn’s Playground Wins $50K

Brooklyn’s Playground is now $50,000 closer to reaching its funding goal and one step closer to making one family’s dream come true.

The Fisher family, the project organizers, have won a $50,000 Pepsi Refresh grant after being part of a month-long online voting competition. Brooklyn’s dad, Johnny Fisher, said it was exhilarating to watch their project climb from the bottom of the list to No. 11, to No. 3, where the project closed. The top 10 projects get funded.

“I don’t think there was a moment in the month of July where we weren’t worried. Even when we were No. 3 and there were 3 minutes left in the voting process, I was still, you know, worried that something weird might happen. But I felt secure once we got to No. 3 and stayed there. But we were worried,” Fisher said.

This puts the program at $365,000. They are still planning on building from Sept.19 to the 24.
