Police: Man Flees With Child In Car

An Idaho Falls man was arrested Wednesday on several charges after police said someone caught him breaking into RVs.

Stewart McEwen was breaking into camp trailers at Eagle Rock RV on South Yellowstone Highway, police said.

Bonneville County deputies said they saw McEwen leave the parking lot in a gold Toyota Camry and tried to pull him over. McEwen sped up to more than 100 mph before turning into South Tourist Park where he drove north along the bike path that runs next to the Snake River, deputies said.

McEwen stopped the car behind Ball Packing and, deputies said, started running from the car with a 9-year-old girl.

Deputies were able to arrest McEwen. The child is his stepdaughter; she was released to her mother, deputies said.

He is being charged with burglary, felony eluding and felony injury to a child.
