Teton County School Vandalized

The Teton County School District is quickly working to repair damages to the former Driggs Elementary School (The school now only serves fourth and fifth graders.) after it was vandalized last weekend.

Sunday morning the school was found with graffiti all over the walls and glass all over the floor.

The group of vandals broke into the building, and destroyed computers, projectors and many light fixtures.

With so much broken glass throughout the building the district was forced to rip out the carpet and is in the process of putting in new carpet.

Superintendent Monte Woolstenhulme said he’s seen pranks and small graffiti marks, but never this much property damage.

“Things can happen in any community and it’s unfortunate, so I think it’s kind of a wake-up call for our school district and community to be vigilant and to be watching out for things,? Woolstenhulme said.

The school is insured and is working with its agent to come up with the money for the repairs.

The district doesn’t have much time to repair the damages. Teachers head back to work on the Aug. 18, and students return Aug. 24.

The Teton County Sheriff’s Office is working with Jackson police in the investigation.
