Amtrak Train Hits, Kills Pedestrian In Lehi
Authorities are investigating after an Amtrak train that runs between California and the Midwest fatally stuck a pedestrian in a residential area of Lehi.
Officials say the engineer saw the pedestrian on the tracks but did not have time to stop the train before the crash about 11:45 p.m. Thursday.
The train was stopped for more than two hours as clean-up crews and investigators worked the scene.
The train was part of the California Zephyr line that carries passengers on a 51-hour route between San Francisco and Chicago.
An Amtrak Zephyr line train last month struck a demolition crane in Nebraska, forcing two locomotives and three passenger cars off the rails but causing no major injuries.
