Man Suspected Of Killing Officer In Ogden Shooting Hospitalized

Utah authorities say the suspect injured in a shootout with police in Ogden is a 37-year-old man with a limited criminal history.

Ogden police say Matthew David Stewart suffered injuries that are not life threatening in the shooting Wednesday evening that killed one officer and wounded five others.

The officer killed, Jared Francom, was with the Ogden Police Department. He had a wife and two young children.

Stewart is in a hospital under guard.

Authorities say the conditions of the others officers range from serious to critical. They are from several agencies that are members of the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force.

Police say the officers went to the house intending to search it as part of a drug-related investigation. When there was no answer, they entered and were fired upon.
