Terreton Woman Pleads Guilty to Passing Counterfeit Checks at Casino

Tiffany Horning, 25, of Terreton pleaded guilty Friday in United States District Court in Pocatello to passing a counterfeit check, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced.

According to the plea agreement, Horning admitted that on May 22 and May 24, 2010, she passed two checks totaling $1,345 at the Sage Hill Casino, which is owned by the Fort Hall Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. The checks appeared to be drawn on the account of a Rexburg company and made payable to Horning. Horning admitted that she made the checks on her computer and cashed them at the casino, according to Olson.

The charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release.

Sentencing is set for April 20 before Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill at the federal courthouse in Pocatello.

The case was investigated by the Fort Hall Police Department.
