School Board Chairman Frank Rash Dies From Cancer

Pocatello-Chubbuck school board trustee and board chairman Frank Rash died early Sunday morning of cancer. He was 62.

Rash had served on the board for five years and was dedicated to supporting the education of the community’s children, school board vice chairman John Sargent said.

During his term, Rash was faced with difficult decisions during a time of historic budget cuts, the school district said in a press release. Rash worked hard to keep learning a top priority while preserving jobs, it said.

One of Rash’s favorite things was going around to the different schools and getting to see learning happen first-hand, Sargent said.

“He was a calming influence in the board, I think, where he’d listen and just calculate in his head what he needs to say and then he’d say something and then sit back and listen. So he was just a real calm, steady Eddy kind of guy,” Sargent said.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the LDS church at 300 E. Chapel St. in Pocatello.
