Jury Acquits Montana Man In 1984 Killing Of Jackson Woman

A jury in Lander has acquitted a Montana man of a murder charge in the 1984 shooting death of a Jackson woman.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports that a jury deliberated five hours before finding Troy Willoughby not guilty on Friday.

Willoughby, of Wickes, Mont., had been accused in the death of Lisa Ehlers, who was found shot to death 28 years ago south of Jackson.

A Sublette County jury in 2010 had convicted Willoughby of the killing and the Wyoming Supreme Court later upheld his conviction.

Willoughby received a new trial after Sublette County Attorney Neal Stelting said that an investigation showed that an earlier prosecutor knew of a possibly exculpatory police report but did not disclose it to Willoughby’s attorneys.
