Old Town Reacts To Recent Violence
Some local people took safety into their own hands on Wednesday night.
After a shooting and an alleged beating just around the corner from each other in Old Town Pocatello, people were understandably concerned.
Wednesday night, the Old Town Neighborhood Association had Pocatello Police Officer William Brown give members the low down on staying safe.
Brown said people have a preconceived notion that Old Town is unsafe, but it doesn’t have any more crime than any of the other four police beats in town. He said that people know their own neighborhoods, and the best way to stay safe is just to be on the lookout for things that are out of the ordinary.
“So just make sure that you’re locking up your valuables, you’re locking your cars, you’re locking your houses. Watch out for your neighbors, look out for people who don’t belong in your neighborhoods. If you see somebody suspicious who doesn’t belong there, give us a call,” he said.
A helpful tip for when you’re on vacation is to set your TV to a timer so it comes on at random times, leading people to believe you’re still home, Brown said.
