Idaho Soldier Dies In Afghanistan

A soldier from Jerome died in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense said Friday.

Sgt. Daniel J. Brown, 27, died Saturday in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

Brown was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Brown’s family requested privacy but issued a prepared statement through the Idaho National Guard.

In the prepared statement, the family said Brown felt called to join the Army after the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 and that he was known for putting others before himself and leading by example. Brown is survived by his wife, Jordan Brown, and their 3-month-old twin daughters.
