Zoo Attendees Learn About Migrating Birds

Dozens of zoo attendees learn more about the Tautphaus Park Zoo’s feathered friends as part of International Migratory Bird Day.

Zoo guests learned about why birds migrate and why it is so important for our ecosystem. Guests migrated throughout the zoo, learning fun bird facts and participating in activities along the way.

Zoo officials said out of the nearly 300 different animals that call the Tautphaus Park Zoo home, nearly half of them are birds, giving guests plenty of animals to enjoy and learn about.

“This is the prime time of year for us to see all of these birds from parts of South America and Central America on their way back to Idaho for the summertime,” said Alyssa Rod, zoo educator. “So they’ve been breeding and laying nests and having chicks.”

Tautphaus Park Zoo will also be honoring local mothers on Sunday for Mother’s Day. Mothers will be able to get into the zoo for free when accompanied by a child.

The first 100 mothers also get a free flower from Down to Earth Floral.
