Suicidal Man Dead After Being Shot By Police Officer

Police in Boise say officers responding to the report of a suicidal man shot and killed the man after he moved aggressively toward officers with a handgun.

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force is investigating the shooting, which happened around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A woman called 911 to report that a man who had been drinking was suicidal and had access to weapons. Officers arrived to find the man standing in his driveway with a handgun.

The officers at the scene say one officer fired a round that struck the man in the abdomen. He died shortly before midnight at a Boise hospital. The coroner’s office identified the man as 37-year-old Troy Epperley.

The four officers who were on the scene were placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
